The Highest Taxonomical Ranking

This is no longer true. In 1990 (according to Wikipedia), the American microbiologist and biophysicist Carl Woese (et al) introduced a new level at the top of the ranking system: the domain.

There are three domains: Archaea, Bacteria and Eukarya. The first two are all prokaryotic microorganisms, or single–celled organisms whose cells have no nucleus. All life that has a nucleus and membrane–bound organelles, and multicellular organisms (in other words, anything you're ever likely to get asked about in a quiz), is included in the Eukarya.
